Winnipeg police have arrested seven teens after they spent Sunday night, July 8, 2018, on a crime spree.
Police say the group of two females and five males, all between 13 and 16 years old got together in the Central Park area with the sole purpose to commit armed robberies.
The first victim was approached by the group around 10:30 pm in a back lane on Cumberland Street. One of the teens pulled a machete out and forced the victim to the ground where she was assaulted until she handed over her cell and money. The victim was then stabbed but only received a superficial cut.
Twenty minutes later the group robbed their second victim of the night. This time they did not physically harm the victim on Main Street but they pull knives and steal her purse and cell phone.
Moving to the Forks Market the group then tried to rob two males but they were not successful. A third male was approached and the thugs tried to rob him of his cell phone be he was also able to get away uninjured.
As police responded the group led police on a foot chase to a railway bridge near Shaw Park. Police had to call in help from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to help safely remove the suspects from the bridge.
All seven teens have been charged with five counts of Robbery with Violence and are being detained in custody.
Police are continuing to investigate the incidents and say that they believe more people may have been robbed by the group who have yet to report the incidents.
