Seven overnight fires likely arson

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service officials suspect seven overnight fires to have been deliberately set.

Just before 3:00 am the first fire call came in about a fire in the 500 block of Furby Street. Crews found a garbage fire and quickly put it out.

A second call came in at 3:08 am in the same block of Furby but this time it was a two-car garage. The building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. It took about 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Two minutes after the garage fire call at 3:10 am a fire was reported in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Furby Street. The building was evacuated and fire crews knocked out the fire within 40 minutes. Everyone who lived in the building was able to return to their apartments once the fire was out. This is the second fire this month at that building.

Fire crews made another run to the area, this time in the 500 block of McGee Street, as they responded to a garbage fire at 4:18 am.

Six minutes later at 4:24 am fire was reported at a home in the 600 block of Agnes Street. Firefighters quickly put out the fire that was limited to the exterior of the home.

As crews were finishing up on Agnes Street they noticed two more rubbish fires on the same block

Officials with the city say that no one was injured in any of the seven fires but they are considered suspicious and under investigation
