Seven more presumptive cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba

Late Monday afternoon, March 17, 2020, Manitoba Public Health officials announced a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

Officials say seven more presumptive cases have been identified bringing the total number of presumptive and confirmed cases in the province to 15.

Public health investigations have begun and further information is pending.

The latest people to contract the virus are:

  • case nine – a man in his 60s from a community in the Southern Health Santé-Sud Health region; 
  • case 10 – a woman in her 60s from a community in the Southern Health Santé-Sud Health Region; 
  • case 11 is a woman in her 60s from Winnipeg; 
  • case 12 is a woman in her 50s from Winnipeg;
  • case 13 is a woman in her 40s from Winnipeg;
  • case 14 is a man in his 30s from Winnipeg; and 
  • case 15 is a woman in her 50s from Winnipeg. 

Earlier today the province announced that licensed child-care centres would be closed as of end-of-day Friday March 20, 2020. They also said that as of midnight tonight all casinos in Manitoba would be closed.
