Fatal collision shuts down a section of the Perimeter Highway

UPDATED

Emergency crews were called to the south Perimeter Highway just after 2:30 am on Saturday, August 21, 2021, for the report of a serious two-vehicle collision.

When firefighters arrived they found one of the vehicles fully involved in fire. Both vehicles had sustained significant damage.

RCMP say that the initial investigation indicates that a car was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with a minivan

The 26-year-old driver of the car, from Winnipeg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three people from the minivan, a 26-year-old male, a 24-year-old female, both from Steinbach and a 63-year-old female from Germany, were pronounced dead at the scene

Police closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Perimeter Highway between St. Anne’s Road and St. Mary’s Road for several hours as crews worked the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call (204) 984-6913.
