Seniors in Manitoba get $200 to help with COVID-19 expenses

Manitoba will be spending $45 million to give seniors over the age of 65 a $200 tax credit, Premier Brian Pallister announced on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

The one-time payment is meant to help offset some of the expenses that seniors may have incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Senior citizens across the province are facing increased financial hardships because they now have to pay extra for grocery deliveries, or purchasing and learning to use technology at home so they can communicate with their family members and the loved ones they miss,” said Pallister.

Manitoba Finance will be mailing the credit advance to every person over 65 who filed a 2018 tax return prior to April 1, 2020. If you changed your address or are new residents you will receive your credit when you file your 2020 tax return.
