Selkirk RCMP save man in medical distress

RCMP officers in Selkirk are being praised after they saved a male who was in medical distress.

Early Sunday morning an officer on patrol in Selkirk came across a vehicle that was running in a Main Street parking lot. At first it did not appear anyone was inside the vehicle but as the officer got closer he saw that the driver was reclined in his seat. The officer knocked on the window but the male did not respond. The officer opened the vehicle door, which was not locked and discovered the male was not breathing.

The officer started chest compressions and was able to get the male breathing again at which point he pulled the driver from the vehicle and began CPR.

Another officer on patrol was nearby and assisted the first officer as they continued to provide medical help to the male until paramedics arrived.

Due to the efforts the officers the male is still alive and is listed in stable condition in hospital.

“We are so glad that the officer had the skills and the awareness needed to save this man’s life,” said Inspector John Duff, Officer in Charge of Selkirk RCMP Detachment. “You never know what to expect when you head out on a shift, but you always have to be prepared, and this officer certainly was.”
