On November 6, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Selkirk RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 59, just south of Springhill Winter Sports Park. The initial investigation revealed that a southbound vehicle lost control on the bridge, triggering a chain reaction involving nineteen vehicles.
Upon arrival, officers immediately began re-routing traffic to prevent further collisions. Emergency responders from the Red River North RCMP detachment, nearby fire departments, and ambulance services assisted motorists, many of whom sustained minor injuries.
Tragically, a 55-year-old male from Tyndall was found deceased at the scene. It is believed that icy road conditions contributed to the collision.
Selkirk RCMP are asking anyone who was traveling on Highway 59 between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. and may have dash-cam footage to contact the detachment at 204-482-1222.
The Selkirk RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate the incident.
