A 36-year-old Selkirk man is facing multiple charges after an alleged incident of intimate partner violence escalated into a dangerous confrontation with police late Wednesday night.
On March 19, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Selkirk RCMP responded to a call near a local business regarding a reported incident of intimate partner violence. Upon arrival, officers located a 39-year-old Selkirk woman who was unharmed. She informed police that a male suspect, known to her, had attempted to run her over with his vehicle while intoxicated before fleeing the scene.
Police immediately began searching the area and located the suspect vehicle. When officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the male driver, who was known to police, allegedly rammed two police cruisers and sped away. Due to concerns for public safety, officers did not initiate a high-speed pursuit.
Later, patrols located the suspect vehicle on Breezy Point Road in Selkirk. The 36-year-old driver was taken into custody without incident.
The man is now facing a slew of charges for his alleged involvement, including:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Flight from Police
- Assault on Police Officer with a Weapon (x3)
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Mischief
The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
