Police investigating 9th homicide of 2019

Winnipeg Police are investigating the ninth homicide of 2019 and the fourth in the past two weeks.

On Saturday March 16, 2019 emergency crews responded to the report of a male who was suffering serious injuries after being assaulted just after 2:40 am.

Police say the man in his 30s was taken to hospital in unstable condition but died soon afterwards. He had been assaulted to the upper body with some sort of weapon

According to officers the victim had most likely been assaulted near Salter Street and Selkirk Avenue then made his way south to Stella and Salter where he collapsed.

Traffic in the area was blocked for a late part of the day as officers conducted their investigation.

Homicide investigators say that they believe a number of people were in the area at the time of the assault and may be able to provide them with critical information.

The attack is not thought to be a random event say police
