Winnipeg Police Service responded in force to reports that two security officers had been viciously assaulted at the Forks early Sunday morning, October 1, 2023.

Police arrived around 1:40 a.m. with more than ten patrol units including, general patrol, K-9 and members of the Community Support Unit. Officers found two male security officers lying on the roadway when they arrived. Police learned the pair had been assaulted by a group of people who they had been following. According to sources, one of the security officers had been recording the group on his phone when the assault began. The three to four male attackers punched and kicked the guards and continued the attack once the guards were on the ground. One of the victims was kicked in the head several times once he was down. The attackers stole the guard’s radio, wallet and phone according to a co-worker.
Police took multiple people into custody in connection with the assault.

One of the victims was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital by ambulance in stable condition. The second victim was able to walk around after the incident but was taken to hospital by police.
Two males in their 20s are facing assault and robbery charges in relation to the incident. The pair were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
