Security guard stabbed during Portage Avenue robbery

Police have arrested and charged a 52-year-old man in connection to a stabbing and robbery at a Portage Avenue store.

Around 12:20 pm officers were called to the 200 block and found a 23-year-old male loss prevention officer suffering from a serious upper-body injury as a result of a stabbing. The victim was given emergency medical care by officers until paramedics arrived. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Although the suspect fled before police arrived on the scene, members of the public provided help to officers who located him near Main Street and Disraeli Freeway. After a short foot pursuit police were able to take the suspect into custody. Officers recovered a weapon the suspect had discarded nearby.

Bruce Richard Renschler has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Assault with a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.

Renschler was detained in custody.
