Winnipeg Police are asking public’s help to locate a suspect related to a November 1, 2021 assault and abduction.
Police say that around 8:00 pm they responded to a serious assault that happened at St. Mary’s Road and Fermor Avenue. Witnesses told police that a female in her 20s had been severely assaulted at the bus stop then dragged into a nearby vehicle. A witness who tried to intervene was threatened by one of the suspects with a knife.
About 40 minutes later an adult female jumped out of a moving SUV near Deacon’s Corner on Highway 1 eastbound. The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed at the time. Although the SUV appeared to stop to retrieve the female, other vehicles in the area caused the driver to speed off. RCMP were called and the female was taken to hospital in Steinbach. The woman suffered significant injuries and was later transferred to a Winnipeg hospital.
Investigators from the WPS determined that both incidents were connected. Police also determined that the victim and suspects were known to each other.
On November 2, 2021, officers arrested 22-year-old Joshua Andrew Baker for his alleged involvement. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Personating a Peace Officer, Robbery and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was detained in custody.
The second suspect is still at large. Police are looking for 28-year-old Jason Robert Baker in connection to the case. He is described as 6’1″ tall, weighing 193 lbs. He is considered armed and dangerous and is not to be approached.
