Winnipeg Police Service has arrested and charged a second man in connection to the abduction and sexual assault of a teenaged female on September 25, 2023.
The teen had been walking in the 3000 block of Portage Avenue around 11:30 pm when she was abducted and taken to another location. For several hours the teen was sexually assaulted repeatedly according to investigators.
The victim was able to get away eventually and used a passerby’s cell phone to call police.
Investigators were able to identify a suspect and place him into custody.
Cory Lee Whalen, 40, of Winnipeg, was charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Sexual Assault with a Weapon x 3
- Sexual Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Kidnapping
- Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Harm
- Forcible Confinement
- Assault by Choking, Suffocating or Strangling
- Mischief Under $5000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
As the investigation continued a second suspect was identified. On January 31, 2024, Shawn Ryan Leslie, 39, was charged for his alleged involvement with Sexual Assault and detained in custody.
