Manitoba announced on Monday, January 25, 2021, that due to the expected supply shortage of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine it is likely that some second-dose appointments will have to be postponed.
“Right now we have enough in our freezer to provide either the appointments that are booked for next week and the week after, or to provide the second dose to our personal care home residents,” said Dr Joss Reimer, medical officer of health for Manitoba Health and Seniors Care and medical lead with the COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Taskforce.
The province said that the number of postponements will depend on how much Pfizer vaccine arrives in the province during the week of February 8.
Currently, no new appointments can be made at the Brandon and Winnipeg super sites. Both of those sites will only be administering second doses of the Pfizer vaccine between January 25 and 30.
Immunization appointments for the Thompson super site are being accepted. The new super site is scheduled to open at the Thompson Regional Community Centre on February 1 for eligible Manitobans.
Clinics in The Pas and Flin Flon the week of February 8 will be providing shots to eligible health-care workers using the Moderna vaccine.
