As News 4 previously told you just after 6:00 pm on Sunday June 18, 2017 emergency crews responded to the report of an injured male in the front of a home in the 600 block of Prichard Avenue. William George Sumner, 27 was taken to hospital where he later died.

Winnipeg’s Homicide Unit began an investigation and have learned that Sumner had been inside the residence when a dispute happened with an adult male and his associates. The man produced a handgun and fired a number of shots at Sumner, hitting him and causing critical injuries. The suspect then took off.
A couple of days later, on June 20th around 8:30 pm the suspect was travelling in the area of Logan and Keewatin when he pointed a handgun at a motorist.
On Thursday morning, June 22, 2017 a patrol supervisor noticed the suspect vehicle when he was patrolling in the area of Logan and Keewatin. He followed the suspect to a residence in the 1800 block of Logan Avenue. Police brought in support in the form of Tactical Unit officers and ARV-1 and secured the area. The suspect exited the home and was arrested without incident.
Police obtained and executed a search warrant at the home on Logan and recovered a handgun and an automatic assault rifle.
Cameron Bounthieng Kinnavanthong, 32 has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (x2)
- Point Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x2)
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
- Possession of a Prohibited Device Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x3)
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order (x2)
He was detained in custody.
