A four-year-old child was attacked by a coyote on Friday evening, June 30, 2023.
Officials from Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development say that the attack happened in the Headmaster Row area of North Kildonan. The child has been treated and released from hospital.
This is the second attack on a child in that area in the past week. On June 24, 2023, a nine-year-old boy was attacked by a coyote in the Sunny Morning Road area.
Conservation officers have stepped up patrols in the area since the attacks and have hired a trapper to help.
While coyote attacks against humans are rare, officials are advising that residents be vigilant, watch their children, feed pets indoors, keep animals on a leash and reduce attractants.
If you see a coyote make noise and do what you can to appear large, stay in a group and do not run as that can incite a chase by the animal.
