Winnipeg resident Benny Lance Hansen, 34 has been charged by police with second degree murder in the shooting of 31-year-old Dexter Cortavista Dejarisco on January 7, 2019.

Police say they were called to a home in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue at around 10:30 am after receiving a report that a male had been shot.

When they arrived on scene they found Dejarisco suffering from a severe gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on January 15, 2019.

The suspect in the case was arrested at the scene and originally charged with aggravated assault and a number of firearms offences. Police laid the additional charge and Hansen remains in custody.
