Police and fire crews have responded to the base of the Provencher Bridge after they received reports of a man falling into the icy Red River.
It happened just before 10:00 am Tuesday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Service Water rescue is currently on the river trying to break through areas of thick ice.
Fire officials say that the rescue is extremely dangerous because the river ice thickness in not consistent and there are still areas of open water.
