Just after 5:00 pm on Tuesday February 23, 2021 RCMP called off the search for 50-year-old Dan Lemay.
Police say that they received two reports of a lone snowmobiler heading north on Eleanor Lake the night Lemay went missing
Searchers in the air went to the lake and found open water. The searchers from the Office of the Fire Commissioner sent ice rescue technicians to area and they located snowmobile tracks leading to the open water. There were no tracks leading away from the broken ice.
RCMP believe that Lemay entered the water and never resurfaced. He is presumed drowned.
Police say that a search for Lemay and his snowmobile will resume in the spring once conditions are safe for divers to enter the water.
More than 50 volunteers and multiple trained search and rescue teams searched hundreds of kilometres of trails but were unable to uncover any other evidence on where Lemay or his snowmobile might have gone.
