Search and rescue crews continue to look for missing snowmobiler

The search for a missing snowmobiler is now in its second day as search and rescue crews add a helicopter to their arsenal.

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, Dan Lemay, a 50-year-old Grunthal male, left Pinewood Lodge around 4:00 pm to retrieve a broken down snowmobile that was left at Rennie, Manitoba. Around 7:15 pm he called a family member saying he thought he was close to Nutimik Lake but was not sure. Two hours later he called again and said he tough he was near Pinewood Lodge. That was the last contact anyone has had with him.

On Monday morning local snowmobilers who know all the trails set out to locate Lemay but were unable to find him. Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) also had a plane in the air searching for Lemay.

RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner brought in ground search teams and used snow machines and people to search on foot.

On Tuesday, February 23 a helicopter with thermal imaging also joined the search in an effort to find Lemay’s heat signature.

Police say Lemay was dressed for the conditions but did not have any food or water with him.

Search efforts continue.
