The province announced today that they will be building a new school on Jefferson Avenue just east of King Edward Street.

The kindergarten to grade 8 facility will be more than 76,000 sq ft in size and will also house a child-care centre and a nursery school program. Other features include two science laboratories, a science, technology, electronics and mathematics (STEM) lab, a large gymnasium open to the community, an art room, home economics lab and industrial arts lab.

The school can accommodate up to 600 students but has been designed for up to nine additional classrooms to be added in the future which could handle 225 more students.

“Families in this growing neighbourhood can look forward to a high-quality, modern learning environment,” said Education and Training Minister Kelvin Goertzen.  “We chose an innovative design and tendering process to catch up with the need for quality new schools at the best possible price.  With seven new school projects underway across the province, we are building the most schools ever in Manitoba in such a short time period.”

The school is expected to be completed in time for the 2020 school year.
