School Bus Rollover in RM of Lorne Sends 14 Students to Hospital

A two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and a pickup truck in the RM of Lorne sent 14 students to hospital on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 am at the intersection of Road 28 North and Road 66 West.

Pembina Valley RCMP, paramedics, and the local fire department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the school bus on its passenger side in the ditch, while a pickup truck was also at the scene. All 14 children, ranging in age from kindergarten to grade eleven, had already been evacuated from the bus.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old male, was travelling southbound on Road 66 West when it collided with the rear driver’s side of the school bus, which was heading east on Road 28 North.

The 17-year-old driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital, where he was treated and released. While all the children on the bus sustained only minor injuries, they were all transported to hospital as a precaution. Some students were sent to Winnipeg for further assessment.

Charges under the Highway Traffic Act are pending against the driver of the pickup truck. The Pembina Valley RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
