Manitoba First Nations Police find guns after pursuit

Manitoba First Nations Police (MFNPS) on Patrol in Sandy Bay First Nation on Thursday, May 9, 2019 were tipped off that a man was driving in the town and was in possession of weapons.

Police quickly found the suspect vehicle and followed it. As they were attempting to make a traffic stop the suspect fled and police gave chase.

The driver of the suspect vehicle then abruptly pulled into a residence and took off on foot.

As officers checked the vehicle they found a sawed off .22 calibre rifle and a replica handgun.

Police were unable to locate the suspect after conducting a search and following up tips from the community.

On Friday, May 10, 2019, officers learned that the suspect was seen at the Amaranth Beach area. MFNPS with help from the RCMP and found the suspect wearing a black balaclava and watched as he ran into the marsh. He was placed under arrest soon afterwards.

Jeremy Gordon Whincup is facing charges for his alleged involvement of  Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition; Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm while Knowing Possession is Unauthorized; Unsafe Transportation of a Firearm; Possession of a Weapon contrary to an Order (x3), and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. 

He was detained in custody.
