A 23-year-old Sandy Bay First Nation man is facing a number of charges including Armed Robbery after he allegedly stole cash and cigarettes from a local store.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNP) say that they were called by a citizen in Sandy Bay reporting the incident just after 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

The suspect had stolen cash and cigarettes before fleeing.

Police were able to locate the home the suspect had ran into and learned he had barricaded himself inside.

MFNP officers contained the residence but heard a gunshot coming from the home. The RCMP Emergency Response Team from Winnipeg were called in along with an RCMP K-9 unit.

As the Emergency team approach the house the suspect was seen running out the back . The K-9 unit chased down the suspect and he was taken into custody.

MFNP say a search of the home located the stolen property taken from the store.
