SAFETY | FIRE PREVENTION WEEK OCT 9 TO 15

Winnipeg will join other cities and towns across Canada next week as they celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

From October 9 to October 15 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS)will be working with partners to provide educational and entertaining activities that highlight the importance of fire prevention in our communities.

A number of events are planned throughout the week ending with the very popular open house held at every fire station in Winnipeg on Saturday October 15, 2016.

The Fire Prevention Week kick-off on Tuesday will feature a pumper truck and crew, fire safety trailers, and lots of great information for kids. The kick-off will be attended by students, teachers, school staff of Shaughnessy Park School and Councillor Mike Pagtakhan, Point Douglas Ward.

WFPS firefighters will team up with Canadian Tire and Duracell to promote smoke alarm awareness. Firefighters will be available to chat with the public about how to test smoke alarms and where to install them in a residence. This event will take place at various Canadian Tire location in the city.

Schools will take part in fire drills and fire paramedic members will visit schools and talk to students about fire prevention and fire safety.
