Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a single-storey home in the first 100 block of Sachet Place around 7:40 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
As firefighters arrived on the scene they saw heavy smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack inside the home and the fire was brought under control at 8:56 pm.
The occupants in the home were able to get out before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Fire officials say that preliminary observations indicate that the cause of the fire was an accident and related to a vehicle that was plugged in inside an attached garage.
WFPS recommends that residents do not plug in vehicles inside attached garages, as this can cause a fire that can spread quickly before occupants notice it. Residents should also inspect extension cords regularly to ensure they are not damaged, which can also lead to a fire.
