Police say that over the last 24 hours a number of stolen vehicles have prompted them to issue a public advisory.

The WPS says that when temperatures begin to hover in the -40 range people take unnecessary risks by starting their vehicles then ducking inside to stay warm while their vehicle is left unattended.
Unless you have a newer vehicle with an integrated car starter, which doesn’t require a key and keeps the steering wheel locked you should never leave a running vehicle unattended even if the doors are locked.
Most vehicle thefts are thefts of opportunity.
