Fire, smoke and water damage displaces residents from rooming house

10 people are looking for another place to live after a fire on Ross Avenue on Wednesday June 12, 2019.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were called to the scene around 5:30 pm. When they arrived they found smoke coming from one of the suites in the two and a half storey rooming house.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to snuff out the blaze and although the fire was contained to the suite smoke and water damage occurred throughout the building.

Fire officials say that at this stage in the investigation it looks like the fire was caused by unattended cooking.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services Team was sent to the scene to help find alternate living arrangements for the displaced residents.
