Roseau River First Nation standoff ends safely, weapons seized

Manitoba First Nations Police Service was called to a home in Roseau River First Nation on Friday, August 28, 2020, after a female caller reported a male had threatened to shoot her.

The incident bean around 2:00 pm when the intoxicated suspect had demanded the woman give him a ride. When she refused he threatened to shoot her.

When officers arrived the male was no longer there but the woman told police he had gone to another home and was armed.

Police went to the second home and tried multiple times to have the male give himself up and exit the residence. Officers learned that there was also a female inside the house with the suspect.

Officers heard what they believed was furniture being moved inside the building which indicated a possible armed and barricaded situation was unfolding.

Several hours after continuing to attempt contact with the suspect he came to the door of the residence and was taken into custody.

A search of the home uncovered a number of firearms and firearm parts.

A 32-year-old Roseau River male has been charged for his alleged involvement with Utter Threats, Unsafe storage of a firearm, Possession od a firearm with a tampered serial number, Breach of Recognizance and Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order.

He was remanded in custody.
