Driver threatened by man demanding cash at traffic light

Winnipeg police have charged a man with robbery after he threatened to hurt a man driving a vehicle on St. James Street.

Police say that on January 2, 2018, the victim had pulled up to a traffic light. As he was waiting for the signal to change a male approached the driver’s side window that was partly open and asked for money. When the victim refused the male pulled a knife and demanded money and threatened to hurt the victim. The suspect grabbed the window and tried to pull it down. The victim drove away and he did not suffer any injuries.

Winnipeg Police were able to lift fingerprints from the window and identify a suspect. A warrant was issued and on January 11, 2018, police arrested Jaime Efrain Garcia, 36,  who was incarcerated at the Winnipeg Remand Centre on another matter.

Garcia has been charged with Robbery and Fail to comply with probation.

He remains in custody.
