Suspect was tripped while trying to flee
Late in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, police received a report of a robbery at a grocery store in the 500 block of Main Street.
When police arrived they found the suspect had already been captured by bystanders who had seen the robber fleeing the store.
It happened in the area of Main and Alexander. The male wearing a balaclava and armed with a knife had robbed the store but when he tried to leave he found the door blocked by an employee from the outside. The robber smashed a window and escaped with cash and cigarettes.
As the suspect was running away from the scene, still wearing the balaclava, a bystander intentionally tripped him causing him to drop the knife and stolen goods. As the suspect attempted to grab the goods and flee again he was held for police by the bystanders.
Police arrested 22-year-old Steven Sealy from Winnipeg for his alleged involvement and charged him with robbery, wear a disguise with intent, possess weapon dangerous for public purpose and mischief under $5000.
Officers were unable to recover the stolen property because it was taken by another unknown individual prior to their arrival.
Sealy was detained in custody.
