City names which roads will get rebuilt in 2018

It is going to be a busy construction season in 2018 warned Mayor Brian Bowman.

The City of Winnipeg announced which roads will be repaired in the new year and the list is extensive.

  • Empress Street/Empress Street E/Westway/EastwaySt. Matthews to Portage
  • Pembina Highway, northboundDucharme to Cloutier
  • McPhillips Street, north and southboundLogan to Jarvis
  • Garry/Notre Dame AvenueNotre Dame to Assiniboine/Portage to Princess
  • Portage Avenue & Main Street
  • St. James StreetSargent to Ellice
  • McGregor AvenueSelkirk to Mountain
  • Roblin Boulevard, eastboundAssiniboine Park Drive to Shaftesbury
  • Fermor AvenueSt. Anne’s to Archibald

The city has earmarked $116 million for repairs, $11 million more than the 2017 budget.

In July 2017, City Council recommended that a request be made for $182 million in federal funding through the New Building Canada Fund. A formal funding request was submitted for provincial review.

“Residents across Winnipeg continue to tell us one of their top priorities is to fix the roads,” said Mayor Bowman. “This is the highest annual level of investment in road renewal in Winnipeg’s history, and this level of investment reflects how much of a priority this is for residents across our city.”

If the funding is approved an additional 20 road renewal projects would be undertaken over the next six years and would see the following roads repaired:

  • Portage Avenue, eastboundWoodlawn to Garden
  • Portage Avenue, east and westboundMain to Memorial
  • Pembina Highway, north and southboundDucharme to Des Trappistes
  • Kind Edward Street, north and southboundHyde to Logan
  • Grant Avenue, east and westboundCambridge to Wilton
  • Selkirk Avenue, east and westboundArlington to Sinclair
  • Salter Street, east and westboundFlora to Mountain
  • University Crescent, north and southboundPembina to Chancellor Matheson
  • Broadway Street, east and westboundOsborne to Main
  • Keewatin Street, northboundInkster to Adsum
  • Pandora Street, east and westboundWayoata to Day
  • Roblin Boulevard, east and westboundDieppe to Barker
  • Dunkirk Street, north and southboundSt. Vital Bridge to St. Vital Road
  • Archibald Street, north and southboundElizabeth to Fermor

“Being able to access federal funding would significantly increase the city’s ability to renew regional roads across Winnipeg,” said Councillor Marty Morantz, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works. “This is a tremendous opportunity for federal, provincial, and city governments to partner in rebuilding our city’s regional road network and would significantly increase the already unprecedented level of funding the city and province are already investing in Winnipeg road repair.”
