If you haven’t had the opportunity to try the Diner’s Grill, stop what you are doing and make plans to go.
This small diner located at 405 Turenne Street in Winnipeg is a gem that serves amazing burgers. When I say amazing I mean tasty, fresh, well seasoned and cooked to perfection.
I had the Stuffed Bacon Cheeseburger which is a tad pricy at $16 but worth the price. It is a massive beast that I had to struggle to finish. This is how their menu describes it:
Half pound fresh beef patty stuffed with chopped bacon & Bothwell Cheddar smothered with sautéed onions, marble cheese & 2 more strips of thick cut bacon. Served on a Harvest Bakery bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle & a barbecue mayo.
I consider myself a burger aficionado and have tried hundreds of burger joints across North America. It is not often that I find one that has me making plans to come back before I even finish. Diner’s Grill did just that.
The restaurant itself is kind of cozy and is located in a fairly industrial area of the city. It is has a dozen or so tables but was clean and well cared for.
The other item I had was one I shared with my partner, Montreal Style Poutine ($10) Classic poutine garnished with grilled corned beef & sautéed onions.
She and I both agree that it was very good but combined with a burger it is way too much food.
Is it health food no, will you like it…absolutely. If you are not into burgers they have lots of other things on their menu as well. Check them out on-line at www.thedinersgrill.com (Don’t forget to tell them you saw this review on News4Winnipeg.com)
