The Tallest Poppy is just one of a number of great eateries along south Sherbrook Street but what sets it apart is that this bistro seems to truly understand its clientele. If you haven’t been to this unique venue it is located in the Sherbrook Inn where you can dine indoors or out.
So Saturday morning around 11:30am I decided to pop into the Tallest Poppy to check them out, besides I was hungry and a typical breakfast wasn’t going to cut it.
I started with coffee… Ahhhhh coffee the elixir of life… but i digress. I started with coffee and was pleasantly surprised that they serve Black Pearl (a Winnipeg custom roasted coffee from Trevis Boyd and crew).
Being a weekend they serve breakfast all day but I chose to be daring and try something new. After browsing their extensive menu I decided to try the Chicken & Waffles.
OMG, what have I been missing all these years. The chicken was tender with a crispy coating, love the crunch. The waffles were light with just the right amount of sweetness baked in. Together they are a taste sensation.
My better half had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Traditionally chicken fried steak is a steak coated in batter and fried. At the Tallest Poppy their unique take on this southern favourite is to use beef brisket. Great choice! Flavourful, Plentiful and the perfect accompaniment to the pair of poach eggs she ordered. The Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs also comes with amazing gravy, nicely done hash brown potatoes and a couple slices of focaccia toast.
If you have been to the Tallest Poppy then you know what I am talking about. If you haven’t been you should make plans to go. Good food, good value and nice staff.
Cheers,
