Restrictions imposed in Prairie Mountain region, 33 new COVID-19 cases identified

Manitoba Public Health announced 33 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, August 20, 2020, as of 9:30 am. The total number of lab-confirmed and probable cases stands at 796.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.9 per cent.

17 of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, 10 new cases in the Southern Health region, and six cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

The cases identified today include:

Prairie Mountain Health Region 17 CASES

  • One male under nine
  • Two males between 10 and 19
  • One male in her 20s
  • One female and three males in their 30s
  • Five females and three males in their 40s
  • One male in his 50s

Southern Health Region 10 CASES

  • Two males in their 20s
  • One male in his 30s
  • One Male and one female in their 50s
  • Two females and one male in their 60s
  • One male in his 70s
  • One female in her 80s

Winnipeg Health Region FIVE CASES

  • Two males and one female in their 30s
  • One male in his 40s
  • One male and one female in their 50s

Prairie Mountain Health region risk level has been elevated to restricted (ORANGE) which means that community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring, public health measures are being taken to manage the negative impact on human health and/or the health system.

Dr. Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer said that effective Monday, August 24, 2020, public gatherings in Prairie Mountain Health region will be restricted to no more than 10 people. Masks will be mandatory at indoor and outdoor public spaces.

The group size restrictions will not apply to retail businesses, workplaces, or other places already covered under specific parts of the provincial public health orders.

There are currently 247 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 537 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 12.

1,596 laboratory tests were completed on Wednesday. According to Manitoba Public Health the total number of completed tests since early February to 119,210.

Two potential exposures of COVID-19 may have happened according to public health. On August 8th there was a potential exposure at Manipogo Provincial Park on Lake Manitoba. The second exposure was Aug. 8 at a Crocus Soccer field, located at 930 First St. in Brandon
