Rodents close popular dim sum restaurant
The province has once again published a list of businesses that were shut down for violating provincial health regulations.
Among them was the popular Dim Sum restaurant Kum Koon Gardens located on King Street in Winnipeg’s China Town. The eating establishment was closed February 13, 2017 because of a rodent infestation. According to Manitoba Health “Operator failed to take effective measures to prevent the entry of rodents; Evidence of mice infestation.”
Kum Koon wasn’t the only restaurant closed either. After Dark on Osborne Avenue was also closed for five days in January for “Operate a food handling establishment with poor general sanitation; fail to ensure mechanical dishwasher is capable of sanitizing all utensils and tableware.”

Mr. Calzone on Pembina Hwy saw their establishment close for four days in September for “Operate a food handling establishment with poor general sanitation; failed to take effective measures against the entry of pest; failed to provide approved sinks for use in manual washing and sanitizing.”
Restaurants under temporary closure orders can only reopen once the outstanding issues are addressed and they are reinspected prior to opening.
