Resident & Firefighter injured in north end blaze Saturday

A Winnipeg firefighter and the resident of a building on fire were injured Saturday, August 5, 2017.

The fire broke out around 8:00 pm in the 400 block of King Street. When crews arrived smoke could be seen billowing from the building.

A woman trapped in the building was taken to safety after a number of bystanders risked their own lives to help firefighter save the woman.

She was treated for smoke inhalation in hospital.

A firefighter was also injured when the ceiling in the living room area of the building collapsed on top of him. He was treated at the scene by paramedics then taken to hospital in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The town home suffered extensive smoke, fire and water damage but it was contained to the suite.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
