Remains of missing snowmobiler recovered

RCMP has confirmed that the remains of a missing snowmobiler who was presumed to have broken through the ice on Eleanor Lake in February has been recovered.

On February 21, 2021, RCMP received a report of an overdue snowmobiler. 50-year-old Dan Lemay left Pinewood Lodge to retrieve a snowmobile that had been left at Rennie. Around 7:15 pm he called a family member and told them he was unsure of where he was.

The next morning RCMP, local snowmobilers and CASARA began an aerial and ground search for Lemay. After two days of searching police received a report about a lone snowmobiler heading across Eleanor Lake. Aerial searchers headed to the area and found open water. Ice rescue technicians from the Office of the Fire Commissioner went to the area and found snowmobile tracks leading to the water but none leading away.

It was believed at the time that Lemay had entered the water but did not resurface.
