Remains found in RM of Woodlands belong to Winnipeg murder victim

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged three people in connection to the death of a male reported missing earlier this year.

According to police they were contacted by RCMP to help with the investigation into two missing people were were believed to be in Winnipeg. Brandon Brust, 26, and a 22-year-old female were reported missing from Scanterbury.

Officers located Brust’s vehicle on February 13, 2022, in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue. The next morning officers went to a known drug house on Prichard Avenue for the report of suspicious circumstance. Police found several people inside the residence including a female who had been seriously injured. The injured female was taken to hospital and offi=cers detained the rest of the people who were inside the home including the 22-year-old female who had been reported missing from Scanterbury.

Investigators determined that Brust had been at the Prichard Avenue home on February 11. While he was there he was attacked and killed by the male resident. Brust’s body was moved from the home to another location. Police say that a female who was there during the attack was seriously assaulted and another female was threatened a nd forcibly confined. One of the females was also sexually assaulted.

Police continued to search for Brust’s remains.

On March 30, 2022, RCMP reported that human remains had been located in the RM of Woodlands near Road 79 North and Highway 6. Forensics confirmed that the remains belonged to Brust.

Police have charged three people in connection to the killing.

Kenneth Andrew Edwards, 29 has been charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder, Sexual Assault, Forcible Confinement, five counts of Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Offences Contrary to Prohibition Order, eight counts of Fail to Comply with Court Orders and Possession of a Scheduled Substance.

Billie Erin Kozub, 38 has been charged fro her alleged involvement with Accessory After the Fact to Murder, Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Offence Contrary to Prohibition and had outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault and five counts of Fail to Comply with Court Orders.

Emily Rae Fontaine, 18 has been charged for her alleged involvement with Accessory After the Fact to Murder.

All three suspects remain in custody.
