The Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre is predicting that the floodway will not have to be used this year.
Although the Red River is expected to continue to rise about one foot each day it will peak at Emerson between Thursday March 18 and Sunday March 21.
Forecasters expect the river to remain within its banks.
Officials say that river ice conditions are expected to weaken and people should be cautious when venturing onto the ice.
