RCMP warn motorists of two men acting suspiciously after stopping on highways

RCMP are warning motorists to be cautious when stopping to help others on southern Manitoba highways.

Police say that on February 13, 2024, officers were called about a suspicious vehicle with Ontario plates stopped on the side of Highway 3 between Thornhill and Darlingford.

According to witnesses, two men in a light blue BMW SUV would flash their vehicle lights and wave their hands in an effort to get others to stop. Once someone stopped the men would approach the vehicle and offer to sell jewellery like watches and rings. In another scenario the men would ask for gas money saying they are not from the area.

RCMP say that no threats were made or injuries reported during the encounters but did note that many motorists felt intimidated.

Police say that they have received several of these types of reports in southern Manitoba over the past week and warn motorists to be safe and aware if they choose to help someone on the side of the road.

If you have any information regarding these incidents of please contact the RCMP at (204) 745-6760 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
