Check Stop, Week Three
18 more impaired drivers busted in week three of the holiday check stop program.
The RCMP have released their statistics for the third week in their annual holiday check stop enforcement program.
40 check stops happened across the province during the week with 1733 vehicles stopped. Police issued 531 Highway Traffic Act tickets during the checks. Police say that they also charged 3 people for refusing a breath demand.

In Week 2 of the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, from December 13, 2016, to December 19, 2016, officers checked 2680 vehicles in 52 Checkstop locations, 25 people charged with Impaired Driving , 5 people were charged with Refusing a Breath Demand and 15 alcohol- or drug-related administrative roadside suspensions
Week one of the Program, from December 2, 2016, to December 12, 2016 resulted in:
• 3774 vehicles checked during 86 Checkstops
• 33 people were charged with Impaired Driving
• Fourteen alcohol-related and two drug-related tiered administrative roadside suspensions
• 662 other traffic-related provincial statute (Highway Traffic Act) charges laid
• 15 Liquor & Gaming Control Act (LGCA) offences
• 8 other Criminal Code driving offences
In total the RCMP check stop program has taken 76 impaired drivers of the road in Manitoba during the first three weeks. RCMP will be out across the province until January 2, 2017. The final tally for this years enforcement operation should be out next week.
