RCMP Shoot Suspect –
A 30 year old Winnipeg man has been shot by police in the Portage La Prairie area.
It all began 10am Thursday morning when Portage RCMP got a call about a vehicle driving erratically. Police quickly found the car but the driver refused to pull over. A short chase occurred, ending when police used their cruiser to force the suspect off the road.
When the RCMP interacted with the suspect after he was stopped something happened that resulted in the Police Officer firing his weapon multiple times.
Police did recover a weapon in the suspect vehicle.
The man was airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Manitoba’s Independent Investigations Unit (IIU) will be automatically called in to investigate. The IIU investigates all cases where there was an officer involved shooting.
