Around 7:30 am on Tuesday morning. May 23, 2023, RCMP were called to a hotel on Portage Avenue in Headingley for a report of a man with a gun.
When officers arrived they found the man sitting in a stairwell with the gun beside him. An officer seized the weapon which turned out to be a BB gun. Police say that due to modification and the velocity in the way it fires it is considered a firearm. Police searched the suspect and found in his possession a small amount of what appeared to be fentanyl. Officers also learned that the male was also breaching several conditions related to the weapon.

When officers went to search the suspect’s room they found two other people inside, a male and a female. Both were taken into custody but the male was released without charges.
The female was wanted on an outstanding warrant for assault and was detained in custody.
The male with the gun, 40-year-old Lucien Baron, was charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Unauthorized Firearm, Possession of a Scheduled Substance, and Breach of Release Order. He was also detained in custody.
RCMP are continuing the investigation.
