Selkirk RCMP, in collaboration with various enforcement units, carried out a successful operation, dubbed Project Distance, targeting drug trafficking in the Selkirk area.
On April 4, 2024, RCMP officers executed four search warrants, resulting in significant seizures. Over $250,000 in cash was confiscated from a hotel room in Winnipeg. Additionally, six kilograms of cocaine were found in one vehicle, while another kilogram was discovered at a residence in Selkirk. A small amount of cocaine was also seized from a second vehicle. The drugs were intended for distribution in Selkirk and Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.
Jonathan Yuzwak, 41, and Samantha Boone, 33, from Ontario, were charged for their alleged involvement with drug trafficking and possession of stolen property. Tyler Johnnie, 33, and Wesley Straight, 39, from Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, face similar charges for their alleged involvement.
Superintendent John Duff emphasized the operation’s significance in curbing drug trafficking, highlighting the removal of a substantial number of potential drug transactions. Chief Gordon Bluesky of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation commended the collaborative effort and reiterated the community’s commitment to combatting drug-related issues.
RCMP continue their investigation into the matter, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and safety and reduce crime rates.
