RCMP Respond to Series of Violent Thefts in Portage la Prairie

Over several hours on September 5, 2024, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to five thefts and robberies at various businesses in Portage la Prairie. The suspects, reported to be acting violently and erratically, threatened and assaulted employees during the incidents.

Officers determined that two males and one female suspect were involved. In one incident, a Community Safety Officer (CSO) was assaulted while attempting to arrest the suspects. Video surveillance helped officers identify and locate the suspects, who were subsequently arrested. All three suspects are from Long Plain First Nation.

Police have charged the suspects in relation to the incidents.

  • Koby Daniels, 21, faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement including robbery, resisting arrest, three counts of theft, assaulting a peace officer, five counts of assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon.
  • Shoughn Perswain, 23, has been charged for his alleged involvement with theft, resisting arrest, and assaulting a peace officer.
  • Officers also charged a 38-year-old female for her alleged involvement with two counts of theft. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The employees and the CSO sustained minor physical injuries and did not require medical assistance.

The RCMP continues to investigate the incidents and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
