RCMP respond to out of control party in RM of Rosser

RCMP are investigating what they describe as an out-of-control party in the RM of Rosser.

On February 24, 2023, police were called to a home after receiving multiple reports that a party was out of control and that gunshots had been fired. Police were also told that several people had been injured.

The property was being used as an Airbnb rental and was known to officers.

Police say that when they arrived on the scene it was chaotic. Multiple people were fleeing the property on foot and by vehicle. When police entered the home they found a large number of youths inside and empty liquor containers strewn everywhere. Officers were approached by a female and told that her friend was in need of medical help. Two other people were found outside the home by officers who also needed medical attention. A male and female were taken to hospital with serious injuries they received at the party. Another male had turned up in hospital and was treated for injuries he sustained at the party.

Police say that none of the victims had been shot and no firearms were located.

The property sustained thousands of dollars in damage.

Police say that the party was attended by mostly youth who heard about it on a Snapchat post. Drugs and alcohol were prevalent in the home.

“This is the second large youth party announced via social media that RCMP have seen in the last few months, and the trend is getting concerning,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Vrooman, Area Commander for Stonewall and Headingley RCMP. “Young people are getting seriously injured. The danger these types of events pose is no laughing matter. The level of violence escalated quickly. My advice to those seeing these invitations is stay as far away as you can and advise police immediately.”

RCMP want to talk to you if you were a victim of a crime at the party or have any information regarding the event. RCMP can be contacted about the incident at 204-888-0358, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
