A 34-year-old female is recovering in hospital after being airlifted from the Mantario Trail on Tuesday morning, July 26, 2022.
Police say that the hiker was alone on the trail and had contacted a friend earlier in the day on Monday to say she was not feeling well but was going to continue to the next campsite. Several hours went by before the friend received an SOS message from the hiker’s emergency satellite device. The device provided the woman’s location but it was not accessible by vehicle. Due to lack of cell service the hikers could not be contacted. RCMP were called.
Around 6:00 am on Tuesday officers were flown to the area by helicopter to the last location the hiker was known to be at. She was still there when officers arrived.
The hiker is expected to make a full recovery.
