RCMP rescue female victim from Norway House swamp

RCMP in Norway House came to the rescue of a female near drowning in a Norway House area swamp on Thursday.

Police say that they went to a home in the community after receiving a repot of an assault. When officers arrived the female victim had left and was seen walking into a swampy area behind the residence in an effort to find safety.

The victim was found up to her neck in water. She had been calling fo help and was in obvious distress.

Officers on the scene found a canoe nearby and made their way through the swamp. By the time police arrived at the victim she was close to drowning.

She was pulled from the water and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate.
