On Saturday, May 13, 2023, RCMP in The Pas received a report around 11:50 am that a 24-year-old woman had been abducted by a man on Highway 10 near the community.
Police immediately began searching for the victim and set up a number of roadblocks in the area and along the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border.
As the investigation unfolded officers were able to determine the name of the suspect and a description of his vehicle. Police also learned of a location that may have been where he was taking the kidnapped woman.
Police went to a cabin in the Red Deer River area about 135 km south of The Pas. When they arrived they found the suspect’s vehicle and could see the abducted woman through a window in the cabin. Officers went in and quickly removed the female, The 34-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and is facing a number of charges including kidnapping.
“At this time, it does appear that this was a random kidnapping. RCMP officers in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan worked rapidly to advance the investigation and did everything they could to get the victim to safety. She is being provided all of the required supports following this terrible event,” said Staff Sergeant Jonathan Greer of the Manitoba RCMP’s North District.
On Monday, May 15, 2023, RCMP release the name of the suspect. Armand Jeremy Thrones, 34, of Red Deer River remains in custody. He was charged for his alleged involvement with Sexual Assault, Forcible Confinement, Assault While Choking, Uttering Threats, and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
